Pastor Bryan Van Pelt

Roger “Bryan” Van Pelt began his tenure as our newest permanent Pastor effective July 1, 2017 after serving as a supply pastor for the previous two years.  Bryan brings a level of enthusiasm and zeal our church has never seen. His sense of vision and mission have truly engaged our congregation to see and know how God wants to use our church body for His glory.

Raised in Oregon and Arizona, Bryan grew up in a nominally Lutheran home.  Although he considered himself somewhat religious, he doesn’t recall ever hearing the Gospel.  However, shortly after enlisting in the Air Force in 1982, Bryan attended a church service where he heard the Gospel explained clearly for the first time.  He responded by trusting Christ as his Savior and was baptized the same day. Within a few years, he was serving in different church ministries and eventually answered God’s call to vocational ministry in 1989.

Bryan later separated from the Air Force and served in the Pennsylvania Air National Guard while he studied for the ministry.  He graduated from seminary in 2000 and returned to the military as an Army Chaplain in 2001. In 2013, he retired with 31 years of military service that included deployments to Kuwait and Afghanistan.

After his retirement, Bryan served in chaplain roles, including serving as the Chaplain and Volunteer Coordinator at the Lockhart Correctional Facility in Lockhart, Texas.  Bryan later earned his teaching certificate and taught middle school English for two and a half years at the Harlandale Alternative Center in San Antonio.

In his spare time, Bryan enjoys spending time with his family, travelling, photography and an occasional game of chess.  He is also an avid Dallas Cowboy fan. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Maryland and a Master of Divinity from Calvary Baptist Theological Seminary in Lansdale, Pennsylvania.

Bryan and Suzanne (Flint) married in 1983 and live in Schertz, Texas.  They have been blessed with three adult sons: Christopher, Jonathan and Zachary.
